Lafayette Avenue School Mini-Marathon ~ Sponsored by Kitchen Intuitions

We had just finished a kitchen renovation for Marianne Carillo and she was telling me about a race her kids were going to run in so we found out about it just intime to help out and sponsor the race. Parents and teachers from Lafayette Avenue School and Chatham High School gathered to watch students run in the annual Mini-Marathon Monday.

Members of the Chatham High cross country team helped guide and encourage Lafayette students along the 2.6-mile course, which started at Lafayette Avenue School, looped around Longwood, Washington and Fairview Avenues and finished back on the school green.

The race is noncompetitive: Every participant gets the same medal, and there are no awards given for time or placements.

Chair Megan LePore said the Mini-Marathon Committee is "still finalizing the expenses [from the race.] Registration was done online this year for the first time."

LePore said the total profit is estimated at $1,500, with donations going to the Senior Center of the Chathams and the Lafayette Avenue School Parent Teacher Organization.

LePore said 323 students participated in the race.

Sponsors of the Mini-Marathon include Triple Win Sales, Fairmount Country Store, Mangia Breads, Power Flow Yoga, Nutritional Harmony, Karousel Nail Salon and Kitchen Intuitions. Vitals.com provided water bottles for each runner and Kings Supermarket donated after race oranges.
